EID Greeting

O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you may learn self-restraint.
(Qur’ān 2 [Al-Baqarah]:183)*

The people will remain on the right path as long as they hasten the breaking of the fast. (Ḥadīth)**

The holy and blessed month of Ramaḍān—the month of fasting—is upon us. On this occasion, The Honorable Elijah Muhammad Commemorative Center (HEMCC) wishes the Muslim community in the United States and abroad a Ramaḍān mubārak (blessed Ramaḍān). May Allāh (exalted is He) ease your fast and bring forth many blessings upon you and your families.

Ramaḍān is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar or hijrī calendar. The fast entails abstention from all food, drink and sexual intercourse from dawn until sunset for 29 or 30 days. The Ramaḍān fast is collectively observed by the majority of the more than 1.5 billion Muslims residing in over 200 countries and representing close to a quarter of the global population.*** During Ramaḍān, Muslims purify themselves through self-restraint and charitable acts; perform voluntary prayers; read and recite the Qur’ān; and seek the forgiveness and mercy of Allāh. As Allāh says in chapter Al-Baqarah (The Cow [2]:185), the Qur’ān was revealed to the Prophet Muḥammad ibn ‘Abdullāh (may peace and blessings be upon him) during this month.

The Center sends special greetings of peace to all Muslims living in regions gripped by strife and instability. We ask Allāh to help our brothers and sisters remain determined in their fast and resolute in actively returning the reign of peace and justice to their lands.

The Center also extends greetings of peace to the friends of the Muhammad family, who have supported the family's work for over 80 years. For more than 40 years, the Hon. Elijah Muhammad was the leader of the Nation of Islam, the world-renowned and largest Muslim-member organization in the United States. He was also the founder of the first Muslim school system in the United States, father of the late Imam W. Deen Mohammed, and mentor of Malcolm X (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz), Minister Louis Farrakhan and Muhammad Ali.
